Tony’s Top Ten
Give me the scepter and disband Congress – while the Black-Robed Nine are on vacation – and here are the top ten changes I would make to get America Back on Track.
One, bring home U.S. troops from every foreign country. They upset the locals and would be better employed patrolling American borders and ports, and supplementing local law enforcement in the eradication of violent gangs.
Two, launch a blank-check program to develop solar cells. This is the solution to both the global energy crisis and our economic miasma.
Three, institute a universal single-payer health care system. Surely this doesn’t have to be explained. Better health for more people for much less money.
Four, decriminalize drug use. We can’t stop it. We waste money with enforcement. Detox programs work better than prisons.
Five, eliminate public employee unions and those in private sector businesses that comprise the nation’s operational network, e.g., airlines.
Six, cut postal delivery back to three days a week. We can easily make due with junk mail and bills just half the time.
Seven, prohibit smoking in all businesses and open areas accessible to the public. The majority has a right not to be plagued by smokers; plus it will reduce annual medical costs by hundreds of billions of dollars.
Eight, phase out all religious exemptions. It is unConstitutional to require non-believers to support other people’s churches.
Nine, limit personal income tax deductions to $50,000 and institute a 15% surtax on all incomes over $250,000. Someone has to pick up the tab. The top tax rate used to be 90%. Want to go back there instead?
And ten, require 18 months of public service for every citizen over 18 years old. Our country needs to come together. Let’s start by getting to know it, by putting in personal time to benefit the common weal.
